BLACK HARVEST MOON |
Available £3.00 |
|
Creators: Terry Stock & Colin Stanford Pages: 36 Format: A4 Colour Cover One of the best vampire comics I've read for some time. Some of you may remember Colin's artwork from "Paradise Lost" the top selling title from Ministry Comics. Well this is an altogether different approach from Colin. There's still that solid, inking style, but Terry's story is a lot darker, so the lines are a little rougher, and there are lots of 'Colanesque' shadows in the panels. Anyone who's ever read " They Thirst" by Robert R. McCammon will notice some similarities, and that's a good thing, because that was a great vampire book. Overall, Terry has written an original, character driven vampire story about lust, and other human weaknesses. Suitable for mature readers only |

ROSE BLACK |
Available LTD Edition Special, £4.50 |
|
Publishers: Rough Cut Comics Pages: 32 Format: US Colour Cover Please don't make the mistake of assuming that this comic is just another 'vampire chick' thing, like Vampirella, and then miss out on a thoroughly good read. Okay, so the premise, although intriguing, (an ancient female vampire secret agent working for the British Secret Service , or 'Razor Blade Smile meets James Bond' as you may like to put it) isn't that shocking, but the writing and scripting is superb, and a cut above other comics of this kind. There's a strong supporting cast, a good sense of history, and Rose Black, although very strong and extremely dangerous, has an alluring vulnerable side, that is portrayed in a genuine and interesting way by writer Tom Campbell. The art by Jaeson Finn is excellent, moving at a fast pace when required, and full of sensitivity at quieter moments. To cap it off Colin Barr's inks are very polished and convey power with a good attention to detail. In Addition to the preview story, there are some wonderful pencil sketches, and page breakdowns included, that give insight to the production of the comic. There are only 500 copies of this limited edition is existence, and I've got 12 left, so hurry now for your copy! |
